Digital Literacy Skills Online Classes

Program Overview: Gain practical, employable skills to help you succeed in the workforce. You will become familiar with commonly used software programs, online tools, and social media platforms. There are three classes, each with their own focus. You may take just one, two, or all three of these classes, in any order you wish. Classes consist of discussion, hands on learning, scenarios and exercises.

Introduction to Computers

Sessions:

Hours: Monday -Thursday, 4-6 pm, Friday optional lab 1 pm to 2 pm.

Class length: 2 weeks

What you learn:

  • Computer basics
  • Introduction to the Windows 11 and Mac OS operating systems
  • Networking, the Internet, and the World Wide Web
  • Cybersecurity basics
  • Improve your typing skills

Google Apps and Social Media

Sessions:

  • 05/04/2026 to 05/21/2026
  • 08/17/2026 to 09/03/2026
  • 11/09/2026 to 11/25/2026
  • 02/16/2027 to 03/04/2027*

Hours: Monday-Thursday, 4-6 pm, Friday optional lab 1 pm to 2 pm.

Class length:  3 weeks

*Starts on a Tuesday, due to Presidents Day holiday

What you learn:

  • Learn the foundations of Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Calendar, and Gmail
  • Learn how to edit, format, share and print documents
  • Includes basics of LinkedIn, Instagram, Slack, and Microsoft Teams
  • Develop familiarity with Google AI

Microsoft 365

Sessions:

  • 05/25/2026 to 07/02/2026
  • 09/08/2026 to 10/15/2026*
  • 11/30/2026 to 01/14/2026**
  • 03/08/2027 to 04/15/2027

Hours: Monday-Thursday, 4-6 pm, Friday optional lab 1 pm to 2 pm.

Class length: 6 weeks

**No class during Winter break, 12/24 – 12/31

What you learn:

  • Focuses on OneDrive, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel
  • Navigate a spreadsheet and generate charts
  • Create and present slide presentations
  • Manage a calendar
  • Attach and send documents
  • Get to know Copilot, Microsoft’s AI tool

Intermediate Microsoft Excel

Sessions:

  • 07/06/2026 to 07/09/2026
  • 10/19/2026 to 10/22/2026
  • 01/19/2027 to 01/21/2027*
  • 04/19/2027 to 04/22/2027

Hours: Monday-Thursday, 4-6 pm, Friday optional lab 1 pm to 2 pm.

Class length: 1 week

What you learn:

  • Move from being a worksheet user to a data problem-solver
  • Work confidently with structured data
  • Use lookup and logic formulas to answer real questions
  • Summarize and visualize data using PivotTables and charts
  • Understand modern Excel tools (Dynamic Arrays, XLOOKUP)

About the Instructor – Michelle Rosenaur

Michelle is a former IT professional, specializing in database administration and development. In addition to teaching Digital Literacy at JobTrain, she helps out in the Resource Center. She also teaches relational database and business intelligence at UCSC Silicon Valley Extension in Santa Clara.
