What You’ll Do

  • Assist participants with personal care, including colostomy care, bathing, peri-care, oral and skin care, eating, transfers, toileting, and ambulation
  • Take vital signs and collect specimens such as urine and sputum
  • Prepare participants to see the MD/RN, and complete and document blood draws, skin tests, and placements within your certification
  • Administer oral medications and perform other tasks within the Medical Assistant scope of practice
  • Communicate vital signs, output, and other clinical data to clinic staff
  • Stock and organize exam rooms and clinic supplies with the clinic aide
  • Prepare participants for visits with Primary Care Providers
  • Provide behavioral and emotional support, such as reality orientation and reminders around care and diet plans
  • Keep clinic areas clean and safe, and report regularly on participant status and progress
  • Maintain records, logs, and documentation in the electronic medical records system
  • Help train and orient Health Workers and volunteers as needed
  • Provide back-up administrative support for the clinic clerk when needed

Requirements

  • Graduation from a certified Medical Assistant program
  • Current or prior experience in phlebotomy
  • Interest and willingness to work in a multilingual, multicultural environment
  • Knowledge of the community served
  • Ability to lift, transfer, push, pull, maneuver, and reposition up to 35 lbs, along with reaching, bending, walking, and fine finger manipulation
  • Flexibility to work a schedule that may include Saturdays, as the program operates six days a week
