Hailing from Crawford, Mississippi, Rice's football journey began later than most, starting in high school. Despite limited college recruitment, he found his stride at Mississippi Valley State University, earning a spot in the College Football Hall of Fame in 2006. In the NFL, he played fifteen seasons with the 49ers, three seasons with the Oakland Raiders, and one season with the Seattle Seahawks before retiring in 2005.
