Canopy

Canopy is looking for an Education Intern to support their K-12 and adult education programs focused on urban forest and environmental education. The intern will assist with program coordination, preparation, research, outreach, and record-keeping, and may also have the opportunity to attend and occasionally lead program activities. By the end of the internship, the Education Intern will gain experience in program preparation, design, implementation, classroom management, and adult engagement strategies, while also gaining valuable exposure to urban forestry, arboriculture concepts, and environmental nonprofit programs. This role is ideal for individuals interested in exploring diverse career paths in education and working with a variety of age groups and educational delivery models.

Canopy is an environmental nonprofit that plants and cares for trees where people need them the most. Its mission is to grow the urban tree canopy in the Midpeninsula communities for the benefit of all. The organization envisions a day when every resident of the San Francisco Midpeninsula can step outside and walk, play and thrive under the shade of healthy trees.

Responsibilities

  • As schedule allows, attend K-12 and Adult Education programs in a supportive role.

  • Support the organization and preparation of lesson and program materials.

  • Support communication with program participants or partners.

  • Support record-keeping.

  • With the support of the Education team, lead special projects to create and deliver new educational content or support volunteer management.

  • Complete other responsibilities as needed.

Desired skills and Knowledge

  • Experience and/or interest in education, particularly environmental education.

  • Experience working with youth in PreK – 12.

  • Experience working with members of the public with diverse backgrounds.

  • Able to support an inclusive and culturally relevant learning environment.

  • Flexible self-starter and motivated independent worker.

  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.

  • Works well with a team.

  • Willingness to learn and adapt in a dynamic work environment.

  • Preferred Qualifications:

    • Bilingual in English and Spanish.

    • Experience with accessible media and/or facilitating accessible learning experience

    • Experience with Salesforce.

COmpensation

The internship is paid at a rate of $17.80 per hour, not to exceed a total of 240 hours over the course of the internship.
