Rosa Elena S.
Rosa Elena S. makes juggling priorities look easy. Despite being just 19 years old, she has all the responsibilities and pressures of someone twice her age. She's a full-time student, wife and mother. Shortly after graduating from Woodside in 2008, Rosa married her high school sweetheart. Their wedded bliss was cut short when Andrew received deployment papers for Iraq. Rosa made a command decision to have a baby. She accepted the challenges and knew the inherent risk of being a military wife. Rosa also feared this might be her last opportunity to have a baby with her husband. While Andrew was serving on the infantry front line in Iraq, Rosa gave birth to their daughter. Suddenly she felt the enormity of being a mother and feared becoming a single parent. Thankfully, after a year, Andrew returned to the United States. In addition to helping mend his wounds, Rosa became inspired by her husband's strength, bravery, and self-sacrifice in serving his country. She empathized with Andrew's physical and psychological trauma and in the process, recognized her true calling for taking care of people. When Rosa explained her desire to someday become a nurse, her cousin encouraged her to go to JobTrain and enroll in their Professional Health Care Worker Program as she previously did. Rosa immediately took her cousin's advice and scheduled an appointment at JobTrain. The Professional Health Care Worker Program is establishing the foundation for Rosa's future career as a registered nurse. Rosa loves being at JobTrain because it allows her to focus on her studies and provides the requisite support and training to pursue her dreams. According to Rosa, "At JobTrain, unlike high school, you don't have to worry about trying to impress anyone or fit in. Everyone is on the same team and everyone wants to succeed." Rosa took her State Boards on April 16, 2010 and will graduate on June 4, 2010!
