On March 2, 2016 in the Peninsula section of the San Jose Mercury News, reporter Kevin Kelly reported that GROW Organization of Silicon Valley announced that it will fund a JobTrain internship, in honor of John Gachina, founder of Gachina Landscape Management and longtime friend and partner to JobTrain who passed away in December 2015.

As Kelly reported: “To honor John Gachina’s memory, his family asked that contributions be made to JobTrain and the California Landscape Contractors Association’s LEAF scholarship program, in lieu of flowers. More than $21,500 in donations were received, with $11,500 going to JobTrain. In addition, IFMA Silicon Valley donated $1,000 to JobTrain in John Gachina’s memory.”
